Men's Soccer Set to Face No. 2 Quinnipiac on Thursday

This matchup features 10 All-MAAC selections between the two programs, including the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year in Malcolm Moreno and the conference’s Rookie of the Year in Tomas Svecula.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – After picking up the first home postseason win in program history over Rider last Sunday, the Iona College men's soccer team hits the road for the next round of the MAAC Championship. The Gaels head up to Hamden, Connecticut for a semifinal matchup against the league's second seed, the Quinnipiac Bobcats.

Iona enters this matchup off of a thrilling victory against the Broncs, where Esad Mackic and Josh Plimpton each scored and assisted on a goal in the triumph. The Bobcats clinched the two seed on the final day of the regular season, beating Rider 3-1 in Lawrenceville, New Jersey to guarantee themselves a first-round bye.

This matchup features 10 All-MAAC selections between the two programs, including the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year in Malcolm Moreno and the conference's Rookie of the Year in Tomas Svecula.

Along with his major award, Malcolm Moreno was voted to the All-MAAC First Team as well, alongside sophomore forward Mauro Bravo, who leads the team in goals (9) and points (24). Ignacio Antequera-Sanchez was selected to the MAAC All-Rookie Team to round out the members of the Maroon & Gold who were recognized.

These two teams faced off back on October 26 on Quinnipiac's turf; Iona left with a 2-1 victory on the strength of goals from Bravo and Najim Romero. Eamon Whelan, the MAAC Preseason Player of the Year and an All-MAAC First Teamer, tallied Quinnipiac's only goal. He leads the Bobcats in goals (9) and points (19).
