AUSTIN, TX – The 2019 NCAA Division I Championships began at Mike A. Myers Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. After everything was moved up due to inclement weather, Iona's
Johannes Motschmann laced up for the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Motschmann competed in the first heat and maintained a top seven pace but was not able to finish the race, pulling up with 500-meters to go. Stanford's Steven Fahy won the first heat in 8:41.60 and had the fastest time in the national semifinals.
Mostchmann had earned a spot in the national semifinals with a seventh place finish and career-best time of 8:41.04 at the NCAA East Regional back on Friday, May 24. Earlier in the outdoor season, Iona's veteran distance runner was named the Co-MAAC Most Outstanding Performer for field events at the 2019 conference championship held at Monmouth University.
Tomorrow, Jessica Scheriff will compete in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase semifinals at 8:32 p.m. ET.
