BRONX, NY - The Iona College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the 2021 Br. John "Paddy" Doyle Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park. Junior
Lachlan Wellington led a sextet of Gaels on both side with a first-place finish in the men's 8k, while fellow rookie
Cosmina Spiridon was Iona's top performer in the women's 5k.
With just four runners crossing the line in the men's race, the Gaels did not earn a team score. Wellington ran a 25:18.17 over 8k and cruised to a near five-second win over the second-place finisher, Matthew Kleiman from Johns Hopkins. Sophomore
Campbell Lee also earned a top 10 finish for the Maroon & Gold, finishing seventh overall with his time of 25:57.7. Freshmen
Nick Sinofsky (43rd, 27:23.3) and
Dante Ubriaco (103rd, 29:58.9) rounded out the Gaels' performers.
A pair of Iona harriers finished in the women's race. Spiridon was 49th with a time of 20:19.5 and freshman
Jamie Gudyka crossed 85th in 21:47.5.

The Gaels return to action in two weeks at the Paul Short Invitational, hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA.
