POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - Led by junior
Nick Hunziker's first place individual finish, four Iona College men's cross country runners finished in the top 11 as the Gaels earned a second-place team finish at the Marist Invitational at Vassar College Farm and Ecological Preserve in the team's 2021 season opener.
Hunziker topped Wagner's William Cuthbertson by two seconds to earn the victory. His time in the 6k event was 19:01.2. Teammate
Nick Soldevere was third overall. The junior ran a time of 19:05.1. Junior
Peter Schulten finished ninth in 19:18.8. Iona's fourth runner was sophomore
Nick Sinofsky in 11th place who crossed less than a second behind Schulten in 19:19.5. Sophomore
TJ Harkins rounded out the Gaels' scorers in 27th place.
Iona finished with 49 team points, second to Central Connecticut's 35. Wagner, Manhattan, Marist and Siena also competed in the event.
UP NEXT
The Gaels are back in action in two weeks when they host the 2021 Br. John "Paddy" Doyle Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park on Friday, September 17.
