BOSTON, MA - A quintet of Iona College men's indoor track team performers competed in the mile event at the 2022 Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic. All five runners finished with IC4A qualifying times in the event.
THE RUNDOWN
Making his Iona debut,
Mael Gouyette nearly broke the four-minute mile mark, just seven one-hundredths of a second shy. Among the 149 competitors over multiple heats, Gouyette ran the second fastest NCAA Division I time with his 4:00.07. He was eighth overall in his heat.
Sophomore
Jonathan DeSouza was the second fastest Gael, posting a 4:02.69. His brother,
Jonathan DeSouza ran a 4:05.48. They finished fourth and seventh in their heats respectively and both ran personal bests.
Racing in the top heat with Gouyette, senior
Ehab El-Sandali ran a 4:06.88, finishing 10th in the heat in a personal best time.
Rounding out the Iona performers was sophomore
Campbell Lee. Also running a personal best time, Lee's 4:11.50 was good for seventh in his heat.

The Gaels return to action next Friday at the 2022 Metropolitan Championships at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, NY.
