BOSTON, MA - Iona College men's indoor track & field graduate
Ehab El-Sandali led several Gaels competing in five different events this weekend at the 2022 Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational at BU Track & Tennis Center. El-Sandali set a school record and world standard time in the 3,000-meter run to pace the Maroon & Gold.
3,000-METER RUN (SEEDED)
El-Sandali's time of 7:48.0 set a new school record, a massive personal best and was the 23rd fastest time in the NCAA this season. It was the fastest time in the Northeast region by nearly two seconds, and the fastest in the MAAC by more than 8.5. It was also the 365th fastest time in the world among nearly 900 times under 7:55 seconds tracked by World Athletics since the 1970s.
In the race, El-Sandali finished seventh and was the fifth collegiate finisher.
The second and third fastest times in the MAAC this season also came from Iona runners as sophomores Joshua and
Jonathan DeSouza finished back-to-back in 13th and 14th place. Both brothers earned personal best times in 7:56.58 and 7:56.83. Freshman
Tadhg Donnelly ran a 8:19.85 which is the seventh fastest time in the MAAC heading into this weekend's MAAC Championships.
All four Iona runners in the 3k event qualified for the IC4A Championships.
