STORRS, CT - The Iona College men's outdoor track team competed at the 2022 UConn Northeast Challenge. The Gaels efforts were highlighted by strong performance from the sprint squad including a school record in the 200-meter event and a win by the 4x100 relay quartet.
200-METER DASH
Sophomore
Jadyn Tabois led the Maroon & Gold, earning first place honors in the 200-meter event. His time of 21.24 was a personal best and broke a 36-year-old Iona College record. At the 1986 Metropolitan Championships, Derek O'Connor set the previous school standard of 21.25. Tabois' time lowered his previous best by .19 seconds and represents the second fastest time among MAAC competitors this season. Senior
Prince Forson also earned a top 10 time in the event, finishing eighth in 21.68.
4x100-METER RELAY
Forson and Tabois teamed with sophomore
Jordan Providence and senior
Kevin Fullerton for another first place finish in the 4x100. The quartet posted a 41.73 in attempt to beat their season best 41.56 which qualified them for the IC4A championship and ranks No. 9 in the east.
100-METER DASH
Forson earned fourth place in the 100-meter dash, posting a 10.647 as the lone top 10 finisher for the Gaels. Providence (18th, 10.91), Fullerton (22nd, 10.97) and sophomore
Jeremy Scott (36th, 11.34) also competed for the Maroon & Gold.
800-METER RUN
Sophomore
Nick Soldevere ran a personal and Iona season best 1:50.55 in the 800, finishing fourth overall in the event.
1500-METER RUN
Sophomores Joshua and
Jonathan DeSouza finished back-to-back in fourth and fifth place in the 1500. Joshua's time of 3:46.30 was an Iona season best and fastest in the MAAC in the event. Jonathan posted a 3:47.31, the No. 2 time this season among conference competitors. Also racing for the Maroon & Gold were sophomores
Damien Dilcher (16th, 3:52.89) and Matt Rankin (28th, 4:00.11) and freshman
Dante Ubriaco (37th, 4:13.98).
5,000-METER RUN
Sophomore
Peter Schulten led three Gaels in the 5k, with a sixth-place finish in 15:08.81. Freshman
TJ Harkins was 12th (15:35.49) and freshman Matt Penna 19th (16:01.35).
