NEW YORK, NY - The Iona College men's outdoor track team competed at the 2022 Metropolitan Championships Saturday afternoon at Ichan Stadium on Randall's Island in New York City. The highlights of the day included a first-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay, second place finishes in the 200- and 150-meter events and a third-place finish in the 5k.
4x100-METER RELAY
The quartet of seniors
Prince Forson and
Kevin Fullerton and sophomores
Jadyn Tabois and
Jordan Providence earned the top time in the 4x100-meter relay event with their time of 42.17. The Gaels finished more than a second ahead of Manhattan and nearly two seconds better than Marist in second and third place. Wagner, Fordham and Hofstra rounded out the six-team event field.
200-METER DASH
Tabois earned a second-place finish in the 200-meter event, posting a personal-best time of 21.43. He was .07 seconds behind the race winner. Fullerton finished seventh overall (22.05), while sophomore
Jeremy Scott was 25th (23.03), just .01 off his personal best time.
1500-METER RUN
Junior
Matthew Rankin made his season debut in the 1,500-meter event and earned the Gaels second silver at the Metropolitan Championships. Rankin's time of 3:58.30 was just .22 behind the race winner. Freshman
TJ Harkins (4:11.87 pb) and sophomore
Peter Schulten (4:12.98 pb) finished 19th and 22nd respectively.
5000-METER RUN
Sophomore
Colin Logsdon was third overall in the 5k event with a time of 15:01.86. Freshman teammate
Matthew Penna was 10th in 16:08.19.
100-METER DASH
Providence was the top performer for the Gaels in the 100-meter event finishing 6th in the preliminary heats with a qualifying time of 11.01. Forson also qualified with an 8th place time in 11.07 while Scott (11.67) was 27th.
400-METER RUN
Sophomore
John Conroy finished 18th in the 400-meter event in 51.11, just .03 seconds off his personal best time. Sophomores
Damien Dilcher (1:02.82),
Jonathan DeSouza (1:02.93) and
Joshua DeSouza (1:05.67) finished in a row.
800-METER RUN
Freshman
Dante Ubriaco competed in the 800-meter run and finished 24th (2:01.71).
