BLOOMINGTON, IN - Iona College men's outdoor track junior Mael Gouyette advanced to the quarterfinal round of the 1,500-meter championship with his performance Wednesday at the 2020 NCAA East Preliminaries at Haugh Track & Field on the campus of Indiana University.

Racing in the fourth heat of the first round, Gouyette earned an automatic bid into the quarterfinal with a fourth-place finish. His time of 3:47.00 was just over a second behind the heat winner.

The quarterfinal heats take place Friday (May 27) at 5:15 p.m. Two heats of 12 runners compete to advance to the semifinal in Eugene, Oregon in two weeks. The top five from each heat plus the next two best times move on. 

The Gaels will also have senior Ehab El-Sandali and sophomore Joshua DeSouza compete in the 5,000-meter semifinal Friday night. The race takes place at 8:10 p.m.
