LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ- The Iona College men's outdoor track & field program earned a third-place team finish at the 2022 MAAC Championships hosted by Rider University. The Gaels individual performances were highlighted by gold medal performances in the 100 by senior
Ehab El-Sandali and the 4x100-meter relay quartet.
4x100-METER RELAY
Sopnhomores
Jordan Providence and
Jadyn Tabois and seniors
Kevin Fullerton and
Prince Forson set a MAAC Championship and Iona College school record in the 4x100-meter relay. Their time of 40.86 lowered their previous school mark of 41.56, set earlier this season in Raleigh. The Iona 4x100 team repeated last year's MAAC Championship gold performance, the second straight for Forson and Fullerton. The quartet won the event going away, topping Marist by .46 seconds.
1500-METER FINAL
The Gaels did not disappoint in their most dominant event at the MAAC Championship taking home all three medals on the podium. Senior
Ehab El-Sandali (3:51.31) took gold, besting a trio of Iona sophomores in his final career MAAC event.
Damien Dilcher (3:51.73) earned silver and
Jonathan DeSouza (3:52.37) bronze. All six Gaels that qualified finished in the top eight, with sophomores
Joshua DeSouza (3:52.44) and
Matthew Rankin (3:56.52) finishing fourth and seventh and
Jamie Dee (3:56.75) earning eight place.
200-METER FINAL
Tabois earned a second medal on the day in the 200-meter event, earning silver in the 200-meter dash. His time of 21.07 set a new school record, topping Derek O'Connor's 21.25 from the Metropolitan Championships in 1986. It was also lower than the previous best MAAC Championship effort held for 15 years. He was .02 behind the race winner from Marist. Fullerton (22.00) finished sixth overall.
100-METER FINAL
Forson picked up a silver medal in the 100-meter dash, his second medal of the championships. He finished behind the race winner from Marist who set a MAAC Championship standard. Fullerton (11.02) was seventh.
400-METER FINAL
Tabois (48.82), whose three medals was an Iona-best for this year's championship, earned bronze. He was less than a half second behind the race winner, running his second fastest 400-meter time of the season.
800-METER FINAL
Sophomore
Nick Soldevere (1:51.79) and junior
Mael Gouyette (1:53.08) picked up fourth and fifth-place points in the 800-meter event.
