RIVERDALE, NY - The Iona University women's cross country team earned third place honors at the 2023 ECAC Championship at Van Cortland Park. Three Gaels finished inside the top 20 with sophomore Holly Smith earning ninth place honors to lead the Gaels.

IONA PERFORMERS

Smith crossed the 6k line ninth overall in 20:58.5. She was followed shortly behind by classmate Tayla Gunton in 12th place with a time of 21:13.4.Junior Madison Klein was 20th overall, posting a 21:28.0. Freshmen Claragh Keane and Lily Overton were the Gaels fourth and fifth scorers in 41st (21:57.0) and 62nd (22:12.7) place, respectively. Junior Cosmina Spiridon also competed and earned a time of 23:33.9.

TEAM SCORES

Northeastern (55) and Princeton (57) finished top two ahead of the Gaels. Iona's team score of 141 was ahead of Stony Brook (170) and Bucknell (206) to round out the Top 5.

UP NEXT

Winners of six of the last seven conference titles, the Maroon & Gold look to get back to the top position at the 2023 MAAC Championships on Saturday, October 28, in Montgomery, NY at Twin Ponds on the FARM. Iona has also captured 16 of the last 18 MAAC titles.
