PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Iona University women's outdoor track and field team competed at the Penn Relays, held Thursday at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, PA, highlighted by a pair of strong performances in the 5,000-meter run.
5,000-METER RUN
Junior
Tayla Gunton delivered a historic performance, placing ninth in 15:49.95. Her time marked a personal best by 46 seconds from last year's Penn Relays and stands as the second-fastest mark in program history, trailing only Kate Avery's record set at Stanford in 2015. Gunton's run also makes her just the second Gael to break 16 minutes in the outdoor 5K, while ranking as the fastest time in the MAAC this season and placing her among the top 20 times in the East.
Freshman
Alex Schulz finished 26th in 16:24.19, narrowly missing her personal best. Her performance continues to rank among the top times in the MAAC this season, sitting just behind Gunton and her own previous marks, while also positioning her among the top 10 performers in program history.
