NEW YORK, NY - The Iona University women's outdoor track & field team competed Friday at the 2026 Metropolitan Championships at Icahn Stadium, highlighted by a repeat title in the javelin and several strong performances from the Gaels' underclassmen.
JAVELIN THROW
Junior
Tyaja Thomas successfully defended her Metropolitan Championship title in the javelin throw, earning first place with a mark of 40.10 meters. Thomas finished just three inches shy of both her personal-best mark and the distance she posted to win last year's title.
3000-METER STEEPLECHASE
Junior
McKenna Arguien placed second in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 11:10.13 with a personal-best performance. Arguien's time was 38 seconds faster than the previous personal best she established as a freshman at Providence College.
Junior
Alexa Doe added a fifth-place finish in 11:54.98.
4 X 400-METER RELAY
The quartet of freshmen
Kaleigh Murphy,
Kayleigh Atkinson, Gabby Carroll and
Sarah Wisnieski combined to finish fifth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:11.83.
1500-METER RUN
Atkinson recorded a sixth-place finish in 4:49.89 in her first outdoor 1500-meter race. Wisnieski followed in seventh in 4:56.65, also competing in the event outdoors for the first time.
Freshman
Alyssa Dovico crossed in 13th place in 5:12.47 in her first outdoor 1500-meter competition.
DISCUS THROW
Thomas added an eighth-place finish in the discus throw with a mark of 34.36 meters to round out a strong day in the field events.
800-METER RUN
Carroll placed ninth in the 800-meter run in 2:23.65 while making her outdoor debut in the event.
