MADISON, WI - The No. 25 Iona University men's cross country team finished 21st in a star-studded 36-team race field at the 2034 Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invitational at Zimmer Championship Course. The event featured 21 of the Top 30 ranked teams and 11 others currently or previously receiving votes in the USTFCCCA Coaches Poll this season.
IONA PERFORMERS
Junior
Damien Dilcher was the top performer for the Gaels, finishing 28th overall with a time of 23:55.6 in the 8k championship race. Senior
Joshua DeSouza crossed 38th in 24:02.1 as the only other Iona performer in the top 50 in the 281 runner race field. Sophomores
Lachlan Wellington (119th, 24:27.8) and
Matt Rankin (153rd, 24:42.4) were Iona's third and fourth scorers and junior
Nick Soldevere the final one (178th, 24:51.2). Freshmen
Aiden Coles (219th, 25:10.1) and
Tristan Coles (250th, 25:39.3) also competed for the Maroon & Gold.
TEAM SCORES
The weather in Wisconsin reached temperatures in the high 40s and precipitation turned the course into mud towards the end of the men's race. No. 1 Northern Arizona finished first with a team score of 76. No. 3 BYU (162), No. 6 Syracuse (251), unranked Cal Baptist (272) and No. 11 Texas (286) rounded out the Top 5. Iona was the third Northeast Region team to place behind the Orange and Harvard (6th).
BACK IN THE BRONX
Three other Gaels represented the Maroon & Gold at the 2023 IC4A Championships at Van Cortlandt Park. Sophomore
Tadhg Donnelly earned 24th place honors in the 8k race in 24:35.2. Junior
TJ Harkins (25:45.5) and freshman
Jack O'Keefe (27:14.2) also competed in the race.

UP NEXT
The Maroon & Gold seeks to extend the nation's longest conference championship streak in any NCAA Division I sport at the 2023 MAAC Championships on Saturday, October 28, in Montgomery, NY at Twin Ponds on the FARM. The Gaels have won 32 straight MAAC titles dating back to 1991.
