EMMITSBURG, MD - The Iona University men's outdoor track & field team earned third place team honors at the 2023 MAAC Championships hosted by Mount St. Mary's University at Morgan Track. Three Gaels took home gold medals and the Maroon & Gold swept the podium in two events to highlight Sunday's finale.

1,500-METER RUN

Iona's quartet in the 1,500-meter run took four of the first five places including all three podium positions. Junior Matt Rankin earned gold, posting a time of 3:48.78.  He was followed by junior Joshua DeSouza in second (3:49.03) and junior Jonathan DeSouza in third (3:50.85).  Senior Jamie Dee earned fifth place points (3:53.87) to round out the Gael finishers in the 1500.

The Gaels also took the top three spots in the 5,000-meter run.  Senior Mael Gouyette earned gold, posting a 14:09.98.  He was more than 20 seconds ahead of the silver medalist,  sophomore Lachlan Wellington in 14:30.30.  Senior Graham Baird earned bronze, posting a 14:35.37.  Freshman Scott Fagan earned sixth place points (14:52.31) and junior Donnovan Tucker earned eight place points (15:02.74) for the Maroon & Gold.  Junior Peter Schulten was 12th overall (15:13.84).

800-METER RUN

Junior Nick Soldevere earned Iona's third gold medal of the day, finishing first in the 800-meter run.  His time of 1:50.57 was a half second ahead of Saint Peter's silver medalist. Freshman Aiden Coles earned bronze in 1:51.06. Sophomore Damien Dilcher posted fifth place points (1:53.04).

RELAYS

4X100-METERS

Peter Fogarty, Nick Hunziker, Josh DeCoteau, and John Conroy finished fifth in 46.81.

4X400-METERS

Conroy, Fogarty, Coles and Soldevere came in sixth place (3:26.51).

4X800-METERS

Tristan Coles, Campbell Lee, and Jonathan and Joshua DeSouza finished fifth overall in 7:47.04.

100-METER DASH

Freshman Jiles Addison earned sixth place points in the 100-meter dash, running a personal best 10.99.

DISCUS AND SHOT PUT THROWS

Freshman John Khader was 10th overall in the discus (35.64m) and 12th in the shot put (11.78m).
