CHICAGO, IL - The Iona University men's cross country team earned a second place finish at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational at Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course hosted by Loyola University Chicago. All five scorers finished in the top 40 led by senior
Joshua DeSouza's ninth place standing.
THE RUNDOWN
Joshua DeSouza completed the 8k race in 23:52.6 and was followed just over five seconds later by junior
Damien Dilcher (23:57.8) in 13th place. Sophomore
Matt Rankin finished 22nd overall in 24:08.3, improving his place by 62 slots after the 3k split. His jump over the final five kilometers propelled the Gaels to their second place standing. Sophomore
Lachlan Wellington (24:16.7) and senior
Jonathan DeSouza (24:30.0) were Iona's final two scorers in 31st and 34th place respectively. Junior
Nick Soldevere (47th, 24:30.0), freshmen
Aiden Coles (50th, 24:32.5) and
Scott Fagan (87th, 25:06.2) and senior
Campbell Lee (109th, 25:41.6) also competed in the event.
INDIVIDUAL RACE
Wisconsin's duo of Bob Liking and Jackson Sharp finished 1-2 to lead Wisconsin to the team title.
TEAM STANDINGS
No. 4 Wisconsin (49), Iona (109), Drake (120), Loyola Chicago (122) and No. 23 Ole Miss (136) represented the top five teams in the 16-team race field that also included No. 20 Tulsa.
