NEW YORK, NY - The Iona University men's indoor track & field team took second place at the 2024 MAAC Championships at the Armory Track & Field Center following a banner day for the program. The Gaels dominated the track, earning 11 of the 27 medals handed out on Sunday. Junior
Damien Dilcher was named Most Outstanding Track Performer and freshman
Tristan Coles was named Track Rookie of the Meet as each earned two golds and a silver over the two-day event.
TEAM SCORES
Rider finished first overall with 190 points, with 91 coming in the 11 track events and 99 in the six field events. Iona was the top point earner on the track, earning all 152 of its points in the 11 events. Mount St. Mary's was third with 115 points (46 track) followed by Manhattan with 79 (35 track), Saint Peter's with 44 (34 track), Marist with 39 (30 track) and Siena and Canisius earning 22 and 17 points respectively, all on the track.
MEN'S MILE RUN
The Gaels swept the podium in the mile run led by Dilcher who earned his second gold medal of the meet. Dilcher lowered his personal best time with a sub-four minute 3:59.52. He topped his previous best from earlier this season by .04 seconds. Dilcher repeated as the mile champion and has earned eight career MAAC medals including four gold with three coming this year.
Sophomore
Matt Rankin earned silver with a season best time of 4:05.00. It was his second medal of the weekend following yesterday's gold in the DMR. Rankin now owns five career MAAC medals, three gold and two silver.
Tristan Coles earned bronze with a personal best time of 4:05.18. It was also his second medal, as he teamed with Rankin in the DMR.
Senior
Nick Hunziker finished 10th in 4:23.87.
MEN'S 800-METER RUN
Senior
Nick Soldevere earned his first of two gold medals of the day, finishing first in the 800-meter event with a season-best 1:51.32. He owns seven career MAAC medals, all of them gold. He was the 800-meter indoor champion in 2022 and outdoor champion in 2021 and 2023.
Sophomore
Aiden Coles also earned his first of two medals with a silver performance in the 800. He was .31 seconds behind Soldevere with his season best 1:51.63 effort. He has earned five MAAC medals in four MAAC championship appearances in cross country and track.
Junior
Caleb Deane earned fourth place points with a personal best time of 1:53.48.
MEN'S 200-METER DASH
Senior
Jadyn Tabois was also a multiple medal winner on the day, earning gold in the 200-meter dash. His time of 21.05 was a season best. Tabois is the most decorated medalist on the current roster, earning 13 carer MAAC medals. He completed his MAAC Indoor Championship career as a three-time 200-meter gold medalist, also winning in 2022 and 2023.
MEN'S 3,000-METER RUN
The 3,000-meter event was another podium sweep for the Gaels with rookie
Bradley Giblin taking top honors and earning his first career MAAC medal. His time of 8:11.61 was more than seven seconds faster than his second place teammate. Dilcher earned silver in 8:18.92. Senior
Joshua DeSouza earned bronze in 8:21.14, his second medal of the meet and the eighth of his career. Sophomore
Scott Fagan earned fourth place points with a season-best time of 8:22.32. Freshman
Andrew Fogarty ran a personal best time of 8:34.98, good for 12th place.
MEN'S 4X800-METER RELAY
Iona's 4x800 meter quartet of Deane, Soldevere and the Coles brothers took gold. Their time of 7:42.18 was nearly eight seconds faster than second place Siena. The Gaels repeated as 4x800 champions with Soldevere and Aidan Coles participating in the 2023 event.
MEN'S 60-METER DASH
Tabois earned silver in the 60-meter dash, posting a personal best time of 6.84 and improving on his third place performance from a year ago. Junior
Jordan Providence earned sixth place points in 6.92.
MEN'S 400-METER RUN
Providence also earned points for the Gaels in the 400-meter event, placing fourth with a personal best time of 50.26. He finished .22 seconds behind the third place performer.
MEN'S 4X400-METER RELAY
Junior
Jeremy Scott, freshman
Cameron Washington, Providence, and Tabois earned fourth place points in the 4x400 event. Their time of 3:23.63 was less than two seconds behind third place Rider.
