NEW YORK, NY - The Iona University women's outdoor track & field team earned fifth place in the team standings at the 2024 MAAC Championships at the Armory Track & Field Center. Sophomore
Holly Smith earned her second medal of the championships with a gold medal performance in the 3,000-meter event. The Gaels posted the third highest point total among the 11 track events in the two-day event.
WOMEN'S 3,000-METER RUN
Smith finished first overall in the 3,000-meter event, following up a silver medal performance in the 5k on Saturday night. Her time of 9:51.96 was just shy of two seconds faster than the second place performer. It was her second sub-10 minute time in the 3k of the season following a 9:28.3 in Boston two weeks ago. Tayla Gunton earned fifth place points for the Gaels with a 9:56.77. Junior
Madison Klein (9th, 10:01.29), freshman
McKenna Arguien (18th, 10:29.38) and junior
Kate Tugman (12th, 10:12.14) also competed for the Gaels. Arguien's time was a personal best while Tugman ran a season best.
WOMEN'S MILE RUN
Freshman
Lily Overton picked up fourth place points in the mile run, in a personal best time of 4:59.38, improving her previous time by a half second. Overton and Smith became the 27th and 28th Iona runner to run a sub-five minute mile this season. Junior
Cosmina Spiridon finished 10th in 5:14.78.
WOMEN'S 800-METER RUN
Junior
Megan Sterbenz earned fourth place honors in the 800-meter event, posting a personal best time of 2:17.82.
WOMEN'S 4X400-METER RELAY
Junior
Jamie Gudyka, sophomore
Nadine Jefremow, junior
Katie Menard, and Sterbenz finished seventh in the 4x400-meter relay in 4:10.44. The quartet improved their top time this season by more than six seconds.
WOMEN'S 4X800-METER RELAY

Claragh Keane, and Spiridon earned eighth place points in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 9:43.11.
