RALEIGH, N.C. - The Iona University men's and women's outdoor track teams competed on the second day of the 2024 Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State University at the Paul Derr Track. The men had two competitors in the 100-meter dash while the women had representatives in the 1500- and 5,000-meter events on Friday.
MEN'S 100-METER DASH
Senior
Jadyn Tabois got the team off to an electrifying start in the 100-meters, running the fastest overall time of the day with a 10.30. The wind-aided finish topped his personal best time of 10.49 and moved him to No. 2 all-time on Iona's all-time list. Junior
Jordan Providence also had a strong run in the 100m, clocking 10.66 for 28th overall in the meet. Like his teammate, it topped his previous personal best of 10.1 with a wind-aided effort and was the 28th fastest time in the event.
WOMEN'S 1500-METER RUN
Freshman
Lily Overton kicked off action for the women's distance team in the 1500-meter run, posting a time of 4:44.49 for 184th overall in the meet. She finished 11th in the fourth section of the event. Overton's personal best time is 4:33.80 which she ran in her home country of Australia at the National Under 20 championships in Sydney.
WOMEN'S 5,000-METER RUN
The third and final event of the day for the Gaels was the 5000-meter event with four Gaels competing.
Junior
Holly Smith led the team finishing in a personal best time of 16:16.98 for 32nd overall. Smith closed her final 400 meters in 1:14.97. The time stands as the fifth fastest time on Iona's all-time list and fastest since Egle Morenaite ran a 16:07.97 five years ago.
Three other Gaels competed in the fifth 5k section of the evening.
Madison Klein, red shirting the spring campaign and not competing in an Iona singlet, crossed in 16:51.07, good for 87th overall. Klein was just off her personal best of 16:47.15. Freshman
Tayla Gunton finished in 17:06.33, enough for 122nd overall. Rookie
Claragh Keane rounded out the evening for the team with a time of 17:30.64.
