LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - The Iona University men's outdoor track and field team competed on Day 1 of the 2024 MAAC Championships hosted by Rider University. Sophomore Scott Fagan was the Gaels' lone medal winner in the opening afternoon while seven others earned eight qualifying spots in Sunday's final heat.

10,000-METER RUN

Fagan earned his first collegiate individual MAAC medal with his gold medal performance in the 10,000-meter event. He ran a personal best time of 30:38.74 and was nearly 11 seconds ahead of the second place performer. Fagan previously ran relay gold in the 4x800 at the 2023 indoor championships. Senior Jonathan DeSouza earned sixth place points, crossing in 31:53.76. Junior Daniel Shephard (17th, 35:08.35) and senior Campbell Lee (18th, 36:06.18) also competed for the Gaels.

3,000-METER STEEPLECHASE

Iona also earned fifth place points on the first day in the 3,000-meter steeplechase final. Sophomore Peter Fogarty posted a season-best time of 9:27.88 as the long Gael representative.

1,500-METER RUN PRELIMINARIES

Iona's top preliminary event at MAACs was the same as its best this season. Four Gaels ran qualifying efforts in the 1500-meter run to advance to tomorrow's final. Rookie Bradley Giblin opened the event with a first place finish in the opening heat and the top time of 3:54.68. Senior Damien Dilcher finished first in the second heat with the second fastest overall time in 3:58.68. Sophomore Tadhg Donnelly and senior Nick Hunziker took advantage of the quicker pace in the opening heat and finished seventh (3:57.93) and ninth (3:59.76) overall, respectively. Rookie Christian Audrin was 13th overall with a personal best time of 4:04.06.

800-METER RUN PRELIMINARIES

Sophomore Aiden Coles was the top performer in the 800-meter preliminary event, posting a 1:53.74 in the final heat. Senior Nick Soldevere won his heat by more than a second and recorded the eighth fastest overall qualifying time with a 1:57.20. Junior Caleb Deane just missed the qualifying time with a season best 1:55.80. He just missed the bubble time by .16 seconds despite finishing second to Coles in the fifth heat.

200-METER DASH PRELIMINARIES

Senior Jadyn Tabois defended his top seed in the 200-meter event finishing with the fastest qualifying time in 21.30. The two-time defending indoor 200 champion seeks his second 200 outdoor gold and first since 2021. Sophomore Jiles Addison ran a season best 22.74 while freshmen Jevon Bolt (23.85) and Evan Gralitzer (24.68) also competed.

100-METER DASH PRELIMINARIES

Tabois earned his first final qualifying time earlier in the day in the 100-meter dash with a 10.64. Tabois was virtually tied with Rider's Artie Burgess, with each posting the same time in different heats. The duo was also 1-2 on the MAAC performance list entering the event. Five other Gaels competed including junior Jordan Providence (12th, 11.13), freshman Cameron Washington (16th, 11.20), junior Jeremy Scott (18th, 11.23), and Addison (20th, 11.46 SB) and Gralitzer (25th, 12.13)

JAVELIN THROW

Gralitzer earned sixth place points for the Gaels in the javelin, with a long toss of 43.50m, a personal record.

400-METER RUN PRELIMINARIES

Providence finished 11th in the 400-meter run in 50.15 and Bolt ran a personal best time of 52.72.

400-METER HURDLES PRELIMINARIES

Audrin was ninth overall in the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.34) while rookie Keith Holloway was just behind him with a personal best 1:00.61.

110-METER HURDLES PRELIMINARIES

Holloway was 10th in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.95.
