POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The No. 15 Iona University men's cross country team cruised to a team victory to begin the 2024 campaign at the Marist Season Opener at Vassar Farms. Senior Lachlan Wellington and sophomore Tristan Coles and Scott Fagan earned three individual slots as Iona had eight of the first 10 runners to cross the line in the 6k race.

THE RUNDOWN

Wellington finished seven seconds ahead of his teammate with a time of 18:13.5. Coles posted a 18:20.5 and Fagan a 18:22.0. After a UConn runner finished fourth, sophomore Aiden Coles (18:27.8), junior Thomas Crockett (18:36.0), senior Nick Soldevere (18:40.3) and junior Max Mahon (18:49.5) crossed fifth through eighth. Another UConn runner split the Maroon & Gold's final top 10 performer sophomore Peter Fogarty and his time of 19:02.2.

TEAM STANDINGS

In the team standings, the Gaels topped host Marist (71 points) by 54 points with their team score of 17. Albany (86) was third followed by UConn (91), Siena (134) and Fairfield (152).
