Iona WXC Finishes Second at Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, PA - The Iona University women's cross country team turned in a strong performance at the 2025 Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course. The Gaels placed second out of 39 teams in the 6k Brown Race, led by top-five finishes from junior Tayla Gunton and sophomore Muireann Duffy. Iona also featured two competitors in the 6k Open Race.

IONA PERFORMERS - BROWN RACE

Gunton led the Gaels with a standout performance, placing second overall with a time of 20:41.5, just 12 seconds behind the individual winner. Duffy followed close behind, clocking 21:07.4 to finish fourth.
 
Freshman Sofia Lumbreras was the next scorer for Iona, placing 21st overall in 21:35.2. Juniors McKenna Arguien and senior Maya Todd McIntyre rounded out the scoring five in 62nd (22:13.9) and 70th (22:26.6) place, respectively.
 
Additional Gaels in the field included Kayleigh Atkinson (87th, 22:35.1), Kate Tugman (95th, 22:38.1), Alexa Doe (120th, 22:55.7), Arabella Dickfos (142nd, 23:06.0), and Alyssa Dovico (229th, 24:01.5).

IONA PERFORMERS - OPEN RACE

Two Iona freshmen competed in the 6K Open Race, gaining valuable experience against a deep field. Sarah Wisnieski finished 196th (23:48.0), followed closely by Gabrielle Carroll in 203rd (23:52.8).

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS - BROWN RACE

The top of the individual leaderboard featured several standout efforts across the field. Ruth White of New Hampshire claimed the individual title in 20:29.4, followed by Iona's Gunton (20:41.5) in second. Duffy gave the Gaels two finishers in the top four, crossing the line in 21:07.4. The remainder of the top ten included Manhattan's Mikaella Martin (21:00.0), George Washington's Hadley Mahoney (21:09.2), American's Shealyn Brochu (21:09.5), Stony Brook's Amelie Guzman (21:13.4), NJIT's Jessie Fotheringham (21:14.1), Wagner's Rylee Ferretti (21:14.2), and Rhode Island's Lily Saul (21:15.0).

TEAM STANDINGS - BROWN RACE

George Washington captured the team title with 99 points, while Iona earned the runner-up spot with 154. Binghamton (177), Buffalo (210), and Syracuse (215) completed the top five. Rounding out the top ten were New Brunswick (282), Lafayette (284), New Hampshire (307), American (316), and Rhode Island (334).
