MONTGOMERY, NY - The Iona University women's cross country program earned a runner up finish at the 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship Saturday afternoon at Twin Ponds on the Farm in Orange County, New York. The women's race covered a 6k course, and junior
Tayla Gunton led the Gaels with a second place individual performance in 20:16.3.
IONA PERFORMERS
In the team scoring, Iona's top five finishers placed within the top 32 positions. Sophomore
Muireann Duffy placed eighth with a time of 21:17.3, while sophomore
Kiera Atkinson was 10th in 21:23.5. Freshman
Sofia Lumbreras added a 15th place finish in 21:41.1, and rookie
Kayleigh Atkinson rounded out the scorers in 32nd place at 22:16.6. Senior Maya Todd-McIntyre (34th), junior
McKenna Arguien (37th) and senior
Kate Tugman (40th) also contributed top 40 performances.
OVERALL INDIVIDUALS
Fairfield's Hannah Snayd won the race, followed by Gunton in second. Quinnipiac's Sierra Gray and Rachel St. Germain finished third and fourth, with Manhattan's Mikaella Martin rounding out the top five.
ALL-MAAC
Gunton, Duffy, Atkinson and Lumbreras earned All-MAAC honors for placing inside the top 15, with Lumbreras additionally recognized on the MAAC All-Rookie Team as a leading first-year finisher for the Gaels.
TEAM PERFORMERS
Quinnipiac won the women's team championship with 36 points, followed by Iona with 64 and Sacred Heart with 106. Iona and Quinnipiac have combined to capture the last 21 MAAC titles, including 16 by the Gaels during that span.
