NEW YORK, NY – The Iona University women's indoor track and field team continued its indoor season Friday night at the Ramapo Season Opener at the Armory Track & Field Center. The meet marked the second event of the season for the Gaels, but their first competition of the 2026 calendar year, and featured several strong performances led by a win in the mile run.
MILE RUN
Freshman
Sofia Lumbreras turned in a statement performance in the mile run, opening the night with a first-place finish. Lumbreras crossed the line in 4:59.46 to claim the event victory and provide an early highlight for the Maroon & Gold.
800-METER RUN
In the 800-meter run, freshman
Arabella Dickfos continued the strong showing by Iona's distance group. Dickfos finished second overall with a time of 2:15.90 in a tightly contested race.
3000-METER RUN
Freshman
Sarah Wisnieski delivered another podium result for the Gaels in the 3000-meter run. Wisnieski placed third with a time of 10:51.47, adding to Iona's success in the longer events.
5000-METER RUN
The Gaels also found success in the 5000-meter run, where freshman
Alyssa Dovico earned a third-place finish. Dovico completed the race in 18:57.56 to cap a strong night for Iona's distance runners.
SHOT PUT
Junior
Tyaja Thomas represented Iona in the field events, finishing 10th in the shot put. Thomas recorded a best mark of 9.96 meters in her first meet of the calendar year.
400-METER RUN
Iona had three competitors in the 400-meter run, led by senior
Nadine Jefremow, who placed 11th with a time of 1:00.20. Sophomore
Zaheira Hegazi followed in 17th at 1:02.16, while freshman
Kaleigh Murphy rounded out the event for the Gaels with a 23rd-place finish in 1:04.26.
