REHOBOTH BEACH, DE - The Iona University Women's Golf team made history this week, officially launching its inaugural season by competing in the Battle at the Creek on September 15 &16, at Kings Creek Country Club in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. The two-day, 54-hole tournament marked the program's first-ever appearance in NCAA competition.
Facing a competitive 15-team field that included programs such as Columbia, Mount St. Mary's, Sacred Heart, Bucknell, Fairfield, Le Moyne, and others, Bucknell won the event with a one stroke advantage over Columbia. The event format featured 36 holes on Monday followed by a final 18-hole round on Tuesday.
Leading the way for the Gaels was Michaela Fernandez, who delivered a strong showing across all three rounds. Fernandez posted a team-best 79 in Round 1, followed by an 82 in Round 2 and an 84 in the final round, finishing as Iona's top scorer for the event. Also competing for the Maroon & Gold were Maria Luiza Soares, Leia McKenzie, Makenna Paxton, and Cassandra Pinho.
