Philadelphia, PA - The Iona College women's rowing team competed in the Dad Vail Regatta this past weekend; a two-day event in which over 100 schools participated. The sqaud entered three boats in Friday's heats, with the top teams in each heat advancing to Saturday's semi-finals.
The Gaels opened their run in the seventh heat of the women's varsity openweight four, winning the heat with a time of 7:54.55 over 2,000 meters. Iona and Rutgers Camden advanced to the semi-finals after finishing ahead of Hofstra and Wentworth. In the semi-final race, the crew finished one spot short of advancing to the finals. San Diego won the heat and was followed by West Virginia, Iona, Bowdoin, Ohio State, and William & Mary.
The women's varsity pair also moved on to the semi-finals on Saturday, after racing to a third place finish in its preliminary heat. The duo went on to face Stetson, NC State, St. Thomas and Washington University, but missed the finals after coming in fourth in 8:41.61.
The third women's boat entered in the competition and advancing to the semi-finals was the women's varsity lightweight four. The Gaels crossed the line third in Friday's heat with a time of 8:15.38. They went on to draw a challenging field in the semis and finished sixth behind Pittsburgh, Duquesne, Brock, Georgia, and Purdue.
