Bronx, NY - Fordham used a seven run third inning to propel itself to a 10-4 win over the Iona College baseball team in non-conference action at Houlihan Park.
The Gaels scored a run in the first inning on an RBI ground out by sophomore LF
Andrew Passerelle to take an early 1-0 lead. The Maroon & Gold trailed 7-1 however after the third inning.
Iona rallied for three runs in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit to 7-4 but could not get any closer. The team got four straight runners on base to start the frame before starter John Flanagan was able to strike out the side. After senior 1B
Allie Abbatiello singled, Passerelle doubled him home for the frame's first run. Junior C
Andrew Wernicki drove in his teammate with a triple. He would score when senior 2B
Ralph Marzella picked up an RBI on an error by the Rams second baseman.
Abbatiello was 2-for-4 with a run scored in the loss. Senior RHP
Nick Stanziani was tagged with the loss. All seven runs he allowed in the third inning were unearned. Freshman RHP
Tom Sweeney and senior RHP
Shawn Walsh allowed no runs and just two baserunners in their 2.1 innings of work to close the game.
The Gaels are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they take on Wagner at Richmond County Bank Ball at St. George.
