BOSTON, MA - Sophomore Heidi Gregson finished fourth overall in the one mile run in leading the Iona College women's indoor track team at the 2010 BU Valentine Invitational on Friday night. Gregson's time of 4:45.81 set a new school record in the event.
Gregson shattered the record set just last weekend by teammate Leonie Smith at the New Balance Invitational. Smith's time of 4:50.86 was a personal best and beat former Gael standout McKayla Plank's mark of 4:53.12 that was clocked at the 2006 Valentine Invitational. Gregson was the second collegiate finisher in this year's event and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship with the time.
Senior Ashling Baker was fifth overall in the 3000-meter run. Her time of 9:45.00 was a personal best in the event and topped her teammate, Smith, in seventh place. Smith also ran her fastest time in 9:47.64. Both runners qualified for the ECAC Championship. Freshman Marion Joly-Testault was 22nd overall and finished a half second under the ECAC qualifying time with an indoor personal record of 9:58.47.
The Maroon & Gold women's squad competes next at the 2009 MAAC Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Armory Track and Field Center next Friday (Feb. 19).
