SHELTON, CT – The Iona College rowing program continued its 2021 spring season at the Sacred Heart Invitational on Saturday morning. The Gaels boated against Fairfield, Sacred Heart, and the United States Merchant Marine Academy on a calm, slightly breezy day on the Housatonic River.
The women's varsity 4 boat won for the second straight week crossing the finish line in 8:07.25. The Pioneers finished behind the Gaels in second place at 8:11.56. USMMA took third in 8:14.45 and Fairfield placed fourth in 8:26.70.
In the women's varsity 8 race the Maroon & Gold placed third with a time of 7:58.90. Fairfield won the race in 6:44.59 and Sacred Heart placed second in 6:46.28.
On the men's side, four rowers took part in men's varsity 4 event. Racing against heavyweights, Iona put forth a respectable time of 7:07.05 for third place. Fairfield entered three boats in the varsity 4 race. The Stags A boat took the crown in 6:46.50 and its B boat was runner up in 6:49.93.

Jasmin Ceja-Vega was the coxswain for the women's varsity 4 race.

Hayden Skigen was the coxswain for the men's varsity 4 race.
