NEW YORK, NY - The Iona University men's indoor track & field team competed at the 2025 Dr. Sander Scorcher hosted by Columbia University at the Armory Track & Field Center. Juniors
Tadhg Donnelly and
Matt Rankin and sophomore
Tristan Coles ran national Top 100 times at the meet to lead the Gaels.
MEN'S 5000-METER RUN
Donnelly captured first place in the 5,000-meter event, running his first indoor sub-14 minute time with a 13:52.34. He was 16 seconds ahead of second place Columbia senior Gavin White. He topped his fastest outdoor time of (13:53.12) set last March at the Raleigh Relays. It stands currently as the 65th fastest time of the 2024-25 indoor campaign in the NCAA. It was the second fastest time in the MAAC this year, behind his teammate Rankin from December in Boston.
Donnelly becomes the 15th Gael to run a sub 14-minute 5k indoor time and stands as seventh fastest in school history.
Junior
Scott Fagan finished fourth in the event running a personal best time of 14:12.68. It topped his previous fastest time set last April at the Penn Relays outdoors and stands as the fourth fastest time in the MAAC so far, behind Donnelly, Rankin and another teammate,
Lachlan Wellington. His time is just shy of the top 25 all-time Iona performance list.
MEN'S 3,000-METER RUN
Rankin was runner up in the 3,000-meter event, posting a time of 8:04.00. It was the 53rd fastest time in the NCAA and best in the MAAC this season. He finished five seconds behind the race winner from Hofstra.
With a Wisconsin runner in between, sophomore
Tristan Coles was fourth in the event posting an 8:08.41. It stands as the second fastest in the MAAC this year.
MEN'S 200-METER DASH
Sophomore
Cameron Washington finished fourth in the 200-meter dash, posting a time of 22.48. His season best time puts him No. 14 on the MAAC's 2024-25 performance list.
Rookies
Dylan Donegan (16th, 22.86) and
Joe Surozenski (48th, 23.78) also competed in the event.
MEN'S 60-METER DASH
Two Gaels finished in the top 10 of the 60-meter dash open event. Donegan was seventh in 7.07, while Washington finished ninth in 7.10. Surozenski ran the 37th fastest time in 7.38.
MEN'S TRIPLE JUMP
Iona's final Top 10 finish in the Sander meet was a seventh place finish in the triple jump by freshman Julian Shaw. His top effort was 12.51m.
