NEW HAVEN, CT - Graduate Anna Holm-Joergensen finished first in the 5k and senior Ashling Baker and sophomore Heidi Gregson earned second place finishes in the mile and the 800m event respectively at the 2010 Metropolitan Championships at Yale's Coxe Cage.
Holm-Joergensen earned a six-second victory over Fordham's Brigid Moriarity, finishing with a time of 17:29.48. The third place finisher in the event crossed the line more than a minute after Joergensen and Moriarity. Freshman Chelsea Hanson (19:10.52) and senior Samone Brockett (19:19.64) were eighth and ninth overall.
Gregson's 2:11.45 in the 800-meter run was a personal best time and was just under two seconds behind Seton Hall's Nijgia Snapp. She finished more than four seconds ahead of the third place finisher. Rookie Luci McLoughlin was 10th overall in the race with her time of 2:22.87
In the mile, Baker's 5:02.65 was also an indoor personal best time in the event. She finished less than .2 seconds ahead of the third place finisher. Freshman Marion Joly-Testault was ninth overall with her time of 5:20.89.
Iona is back in action next weekend at the New Balance Invitational at the 168th Street Armory Track and Field Center in New York City.
