MADISON, WI - The No. 23 Iona University men's cross country team compete at the 2024 Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Presented by Under Armour hosted by the University of Wisconsin at the Thomas Zimmer XC Course Friday afternoon. The Gaels finished 20th overall in a race that featured 17 nationally ranked programs. Junior Matt Rankin was the Gaels top performer, crossing the line in 25th place.

IONA PERFORMERS

Rankin finished the 8k race in 23:58.4 as Iona's first scorer. Making his Maroon & Gold debut, red shirt freshman Ollie Boltz was the team's No. 2 finisher in 77th place with a time of 24:29.4. Senior Lachlan Wellington was 83rd in 24:32.2. Sophomore Aiden Coles (113th, 24:54.0) and Tristan Coles (121st, 25:00.8) were the Gaels final two scorers. Senior Nick Soldevere (25:03.8), junior Thomas Crockett (25:18.1) and sophomore Scott Fagan (28:04.7) also competed in the championship 8k race.

TEAM SCORES

No. 2 BYU earned the team title with a score of 44. No. 5 Iowa State, No. 20 Wake Forest, No. 6 North Carolina, and No. 27 Washington rounded out the top five.

8K B RACE

Junior Max Mahon (25:36.1) and sophomore Peter Fogarty (26:23.5) raced in the men's 8k B race and finished 23rd and 33rd respectively.

The Gaels return East to compete at the Princeton Fall Classic on Friday, October 18 while and head back to Wisconsin for the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals event. Wisconsin is the host of the 2024 NCAA Championship.
