GREGSON NAMED MOST OUTSTANDING PERFORMER

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - Iona College women's outdoor track and field sophomore Heidi Gregson was named the 2010 MAAC Most Outstanding Performers for Track Events at the conference championship meet hosted by Rider University.  The Gaels finished fourth overall at the championship with Gregson earning individual titles in dominating fashion in both the 800- and 1500-meter events.

Gregson set a MAAC Championship record with her time of 2:10.83.  She topped the 12-year old meet record by more than 1.5 seconds.  Gregson also defeated Manhattan's Maria Jangsten by more than five seconds to claim victory.  Teammate Chelsea Borbolla was seventh overall in 2:19.75.

In the 1500, Gregson nearly duplicated the five second win, crossing the line in 4:37.74.  For her efforts she claimed the top performer crown for the second time in her career, also earning the Indoor Most Outstanding Performer honor as a freshman. Junior Kristen Peluso earned All-MAAC status by finishing third overall (4:42.42).   Freshman Luci McLoughlin finished sixth and junior Natalie Finnerty was 12th in the event.

Freshman Marion Joly-Testault also earned an individual MAAC Championship, besting her teammate Anna Holm-Joergensen by one-hundredth of a second in the 5000-meter run.  The Gael duo finished in 18:01.13 and 18:01.14, more than 45 seconds ahead of the third place finisher.   Junior Chelsea Brisman was ninth, while rookie Chelsea Hanson was 10th for the Maroon & Gold

The Gaels continue the championship portion of their schedule at the ECAC Championships in two weeks from May 14-16 at Princeton University.
