The 1967 Gaels were the first team in Iona football history to register a perfect record with its 9-0 mark on the club level.

Under the guidance of head coach Ben Bedini, the Gaels rattled of eight regular season wins, outscoring the opposition by a 250-21 count en route to recording five shutouts. Marist, Hartford, Georgetown, St. Francis and Scranton all failed to tally a point versus a defense which led the nation in fewest points allowed-2.6 points per game.

On the other hand, the Iona offense ranked number one in the country in points scored, scoring 35 or more on five occasions while being held under 20 only twice.

With an 8-0 record, Iona advanced to the National Club Football Championship. Under the lights, the Gaels downed King’s College, 20-6, to earn the National Club Football crown.
