Arrigoni Hall of Fame
Jennifer Shoemaker '04 entered the Iona College Goal Club Hall of Fame as one of the most outstanding players in Iona College women’s water polo history. She became the second student-athlete from the program to earn the honor.
Shoemaker was one of the most decorated goalies in program history. At the time of her graduation, she held the top three marks in single-season save percentage, single season saves and single-season goals against average. Shoemaker was the first goalie in Iona history to record 300 or more saves in a single-season. At the time of her induction, she held the school record single-season goals-against average (4.72, 2003), and save percentage (.723, 2003) and her 339 saves as a sophomore in 2002 ranked No. 2 on the list.
A two-time All-MAAC First Team performer, Shoemaker earned the honor as a junior and senior. In just the second year of the MAAC Water Polo League, she helped lead the Gaels to their first-ever MAAC Championship in 2004, earning All-Tournament honors while allowing just two goals to defending champion Wagner in the title game.
A well-rounded student-athlete, Shoemaker was the MAAC’s nomination for the 2004 NCAA Sportsmanship Award. In addition to her athletic and academic activities, Shoemaker volunteered her time for several causes. She participated in church services on Iona’s campus, took part in Midnight Runs with Iona’s campus ministries, traveled on a service trip to Alaska to work a homeless shelter, fulfilled her student-teaching requirement abroad in Japan while tutoring students to help them adjust to the American School and participating in fundraisers for disabled Iraq War veterans.
