Arrigoni Hall of Fame
Joe Tighe ’60 enters the Iona College Goal Club Hall of Fame as a successful athlete and loyal contributor.
Tighe was a four-year letterman for the basketball team, appearing in 59 games. He led the team in rebounding during the 1959-60 season, grabbing 13.4 rebounds per contest-the sixth best single-season total in Iona history. He served as the team’s co-captain during his senior season.
After his 1960 graduation from Iona, Tighe also played professional football for five years in the Continental and Atlantic Coast Leagues. He retired in 1965 and became a highly successful entrepreneur.
Tighe was also a driving force behind the organization of the Iona College Goal Club. Over the years, Tighe has remained involved in Iona College athletics as a loyal supporter and contributor.
At the time of his induction, he resides in Darien, Connecticut with his wife Elaine. Tighe has six children and eight grandchildren.
