Arrigoni Hall of Fame
Joe Rees enters the Iona College Hall of Fame as the founder of the Iona 5’ers, now known as the Goal Club.
Rees served as Chairman of the “Long Step Forward”- the major fund-raising drive for the John A. Mulcahy Campus Center. The drive began in 1971 and concluded with the construction of the building in 1974. The Iona 5’ers played a major role in this effort, serving as the primary fund-raisers.
To actively expand its fund-raising efforts for the entire Iona College Athletics Department, the 5’ers became the Goal Club in 1976. Rees served as president during the initial stages of the transition. Today, the Goal Club raises hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to support Iona Athletics.
Over the years, Rees has served on many athletic committees and still remains involved as a loyal supporter and contributor to the Iona College Athletics Department.
