Anthony G. Naclerio ?59 served as the head coach of the Iona College men’s and women’s cross country and track and field programs.
In his first year as head coach of the Gaels, the team produced three NCAA Division I All-Americans. During his tenure at Iona, Naclerio was also responsible for a number of Metropolitan, Collegiate Track Conference and IC4A champions.
Naclerio has coached countless high school national champions, collegiate All-Americans, and Olympic medalists. He was put in charge of the United States Development program for throwing athletes from 1975-96. Naclerio has also coached on the World and Olympic levels. A high point of his career
came in 1996 when he led the USA team into the stadium at the Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta, GA.
Naclerio has been a member of the United States Olympic Development Committee for the past 25 years, working at learn-by-doing clinics for coaches and athletes. Naclerio has been named Coach of the Year on the high school level and was selected as the head coach of the Olympic Sports Festival East Team in
1987. He also was selected to serve as a Throws Assistant for the American Team that competed in West Germany.
In 1989, Naclerio was selected as the throws coach for the USA vs. Russia and England competition. He was further honored by being awarded the position of the throws coach for the USA team at the World Championships in Tokyo.
In addition, Naclerio has spent 20 years as a Christian Brother. He has been inducted into the Hall of Fame of All Hallows, Essex Catholic, and Morris Hills High School as an educator and coach.
