The 1977 Iona College Gael football team, only the second unbeaten gridiron squad in school history, enters the Hall of Fame this season. The Gaels swept the opposition in all seven games, including a 65-0 win over Fairfield in the season opener. They also captured the Metropolitan seven Conference Championship during the season. Iona defeated the likes of Pace, St. John's and Manhattan, among others. During this magical season, the Gaels established 11 new school and two new Metropolitan records. Led by senior tri-captains Bob Tunney, Tom McCormick and Tom Nolin, the 1977 squad averaged 30.0 points and 387 yards of offense per game while yielding just 11.4 points per outing.
