Larry McGee ’85 enters the Iona College Goal Club Hall of Fame as one of the most successful players in the history of the hockey program.
McGee, who appeared in 86 games during his four-year standout career with the Gaels, is quite prevalent in the Iona College record book, holding the team’s career scoring record with 219 points. He ranks first on the Gaels’ all-time career assists list with 131 and his 88 career goals tie him for third place all-time on Iona’s scoring list.
He earned numerous team awards, including the 1982 Paul Kelly Memorial Trophy, awarded to the team’s top rookie performer. He was also a three-time recipient of the Nixon Trophy as team MVP and four-time Reilly Trophy honoree as the team’s top scorer.
As a senior, McGee served as the team’s tri-captain and was nominated for the prestigious Hobey Baker Award, recognizing the top Division III player. That season, McGee totaled a single-season mark of 41 assists to go along with his 26 goals.
Since graduating from Iona in 1985, McGee has served with the New York City Fire Department, captaining the FDNY Hockey team, representing Engine Company 66.
