Samuel P. Tolisano ?85 was a standout performer on the baseball diamond during his time at Iona College.
Tolisano was the Gaels offensive leader at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship during his sophomore and junior seasons, hitting .506 and .416. In 1983, Tolisano had the fourth highest batting average in all of NCAA Division I when he batted .506. In addition, Tolisano had a four-year careerbatting average of .416 and a career slugging percentage of .718.
Tolisano was among the Top 10 hitters in the nation as a sophomore and junior. He led his team in all offensive categories during the 1984 season. Tolisano was also a three-time member of the ECAC All-Star team.
At the time of his graduation, Tolisano ranked first on Iona’s career hit list with 187. In addition, he remains No. 1 on the all-time doubles list with 65.
Tolisano continues to hold the single-season school record with 26 doubles. His 43 runs scored and 43 RBI in 1984 set a new school records. Both currently stand in the Top 15 on the single-season list.
In 1985, Tolisano received the Iona College Athletics’ Joseph O’Connell Award, given to the most outstanding male and female student-athletes of the year.
