Arrigoni Hall of Fame
Raymond A. Judge was a standout performer as a dual-sport athlete during his time at Iona College. He starred both as a swimmer and water polo player. Born and raised in New Rochelle, Ray is one of six siblings to have represented the Gaels in the pool.
Ray was a three-time captain of the men’s water polo team, named team MVP in four straight seasons from 1983-86, named 1st Team Division I All-Mid-Atlantic Conference four straight seasons and named to the Division I All-East Team three straight seasons from 1984-86.
Ray currently ranks in the top ten in almost every statistical category associated with the Iona College men’s water polo program. He is currently ranked first all-time in career steals with 257, third in career assists with 236 and fourth in career points with 481.
Ray led the water polo team to an 80-39 overall record from 1983-86, 1983 being the program’s inaugural varsity season. During his tenure the Gaels accomplished an undefeated 20-0 record at home, a program best #12 Division I national ranking in mid-1985, and a pair of 4th place finishes at the 1985 & 1986 Division I Eastern Championships. The Gaels concluded the 1985 & 1986 seasons with a #18 Division I national ranking.
Ray was a two-time captain of the men’s swim team and a member of Iona’s first Metropolitan Collegiate Swim Conference Championship team. He set school records in the 1650-, 1000- and 500-yard freestyle events as well as the 400-yard individual medley. Ray also swam on two school record relays (400-free and 400-medley). He was in Iona’s All-Time Top 10 in all 14 individual events.
Ray was the recipient of the 1987 Joseph O’Connell Award, presented annually to Iona College’s most outstanding male and female senior student-athletes. Ray majored in Chemistry and attended Iona on a full academic scholarship. He went on to complete a Masters Degree in Finance at The NYU Stern School of Business.
