Brother John Warren, Iona's hockey team moderator, faculty advisor, team administrator, organizer, and liaison, served the Iona athletic department from 1975 through 1986.
During his 11-year tenure, the Gaels hockey team experienced tremendous growth and success, compiling a 166-54-14 record while advancing to five Eastern College Athletic Conference Tournaments. In addition, the Gaels put together four consecutive 20-win seasons from 1983-1986.
More importantly, Warren guided the hockey team through the transition from club to varsity status, beginning with the 1976-77 season.
Throughout the years, Warren served under coaches Bill Edwards and Frank Effinger. With neither coach a member of the athletic staff on a full-time basis, Warren's presence and leadership were invaluable.
"Pride, Hustle, Desire" has been the hockey team's trait and Brother John Warren epitomized that.
