Jeff Spilsbury ’93 enters the Iona College Club Hall of Fame after an outstanding career on the diamond for the Gaels.
He was honored by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference as its South Division Player of the Year twice, in 1991 and 1992. During the 1991 campaign, the Belleville, NJ native batted .422, with a single-season record 73 hits. It was the best single-season batting average in Iona history and fourth-highest in MAAC history.
Spilsbury’s performance at the plate played a significant role in Iona College leading all of NCAA Division I in team batting (.356). Additionally, Spilsbury was named to both the New York State College and Northeast Regional All-Star teams that season.
In 1992, Spilsbury helped guide the Gaels to a 23-19 record and 11-5 mark in league play. That season, the Gaels captured the 1992 MAAC Championship and advanced to the finals of the ECAC Championship.
The second baseman currently ranks third on Iona’s all-time hits list, with 201- including 37 career doubles, which is good for sixth all-time.
