Br. Richard B. Power was the fourth President of Iona College, serving a six-year term from 1959 through 1965.

A native New Yorker and graduate of Power Memorial Academy in New York City, Br. Power taught at All Hallows High School, Power Memorial Academy and Essex Catholic High School. While on the faculty at Power, he guided the school to two consecutive Catholic High School Athletic Association baseball titles as head coach.

Br. Power came to Iona in 1947 and from then until 1954 served as Director of Athletics and Chairman of the Biology Department. He was appointed Principal of All Hallows High School in the Bronx, where he served in that capacity until 1959 when he was appointed the Fourth President of Iona College.

During his tenure as President of the College, Iona was able to acquire the present Hagan Hall from Iona Prep as a result of a transfer of property donated to the College. The present M.B.A. program was also inaugurated during his term as President.

In 1971, Br. Power received The Iona College Alumni Association’s coveted Br. William B. Cornelia Award for outstanding service to Iona College.
