Kashif Hameed was a standout performer on the basketball court during his time at Iona College which included the 1995-99 basketball seasons. Kashif led the Gaels to three-straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season titles in 1995, 1996 and 1997 and repeat appearances to the National Invitation Tournament facing Saint Joseph’s and Connecticut in 1996 and 1997.

In 1998, after roaring through the MAAC Tournament and capturing the MAAC Championship, Kashif led the Gaels to a South Regional match-up against Syracuse in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at the Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY.

Following the 1998-99 MAAC Championships, Kashif was named to the MAAC Men’s Basketball All-Tournament Team. Additionally Kashif was an All-MAAC selection in 1997 and 1998 and was named the 1998 MAAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Year.

Kashif currently ranks 21st on Iona’s all-time scoring list. In addition, he ranks in the top ten single-season lists for blocks, free throws, free throw attempts, and games played. Kashif was the team’s leading scorer during the 1997-98 season, led the team in field goal percentage during the 1996-97 and 1997-98 seasons, and led the team in blocks during the 1996-97, 1997-98, and 1998-99 basketball seasons. 

Kashif joins the Iona College Goal Club Hall of Fame as the 25th Iona College Men’s Basketball player or coach to receive the ultimate athletic honor bestowed by the College.

Kashif is presently an eighth grade English teacher in the Bronx, and has been teaching since 2001. He is also a very active member of the youth basketball community and a former director of the youth basketball program Saving Inner City Kids (S.I.C.K). From 2004-2007, Kashif played basketball overseas in Switzerland and France before finishing his Pro-European career in 2007 and returning to the classroom. Kashif enters the Goal Club Hall of Fame thanking his father Azzaam, his mother Rajeeyah, his two brothers John and Cedric, and most importantly his wife Sonia for their involvement and responsibility in his success.
